First Impressions: Takko Lacquer

Hey! I have a new brand for you all today. I know a lot of bloggers have been all kinds of indie obsessed over the last year or two. I like a good glitter, but honestly, I feel like a lot of them are remixes of the same multicolored glitter bombs in a clear base. That’s probably not fair and overly generalized, but I’m much more impressed by a creme with a perfect formula or a unique shimmer. When I saw swatches of Takko Lacquer from Rie at Nails and Noms, I was sold. I’m still not willing to stalk Etsy at three in the morning to get my polish, but if I log on during waking hours and there’s something I want, I’ll buy in.

When I saw the tweet that Sheryl’s store opened just before I went to lunch a few weeks ago, I logged in, and the lovely bottles you are about to see are what I was able to score.

Blushing Nude is a light nude, about the color of my foundation, loaded with a bright pink shimmer. I love this combination so much. It pretty much matches the color of my face when I’m blushing. So appropriately named. The formula was perfect; not too thick, not too runny. This is two coats. Please excuse my hands. My cuticles look terrifying here. They didn’t look that bad in person, I swear. Just stare at the beautiful polish.

Va Va Voom is a red orange shimmer with an amazing smattering of holographic shimmer particles. I wasn’t sure about this one when I purchased it, but I’m really glad I did. It’s incredibly glowy and the holo pops in pretty much any light, which I love. Nothing sucks more than wearing a polish that looks totally dull at work and having to say “No, but seriously! It looks fantabulous in direct sunlight, and in my light box.” Then you have to explain what a light box is. This is three thin-ish coats. It was opaque at two, but I may or may not have let the first coat dry long enough, so I needed to fix my mistake.

Kiss the Sky is my absolute favorite of these three. I was really not expecting this much gorgeousness packed into a little .5 oz bottle. Every review and swatch I saw told me this one was a must have. I thought (foolishly) “Oh, another purple polish with a pink or red shimmer.” If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, right? Nope! If all those dusty purples with a pink shimmer had a bold, confident, almost outlandish sister, this would be it. The base is a bold, blue-toned purple jelly and the shimmer is kind of hard to describe. I have to say it’s orange, but I feel like there’s a pinkish tint. In the photos, it even looks like there’s a green coming out to play. It was all I could to to take this polish off to continue my swatch-a-thon.

I really loved the personal touch that came with these beautiful polishes. I had a handwritten note on a business card thanking me for my purchase, and the packaging was adorable. Pink duct tape and pink bubble wrap and pink tissue paper. I feel like if Sheryl and I ever met, we would be friends. I’ll try to take pictures with the next order instead of tearing into the package like a wild animal.

Takko Lacquer is available on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/takkolacquer). According to twitter and Sheryl’s Etsy page, she’ll be restocking on February 1 at 1 PM, Eastern Standard Time. And by 1 PM, I mean you should log on about 1:15 so I have time to pick out what I want first.

I am actually surprised by how much I like Blushing Nude. These are all gorgeous though. I don’t own any Takko polishes and should probably remedy that. I agree with you about the glitter indie polishes. I love glitters, but they have a time and a place. I’ve been longing for more versatile polishes, lovely, unique, but also easy to wear in any environment. These fit the bill.

I don’t mind a little bling for day to day, since I work in an office with pretty liberal dress code standards, but I like a polish I can brush on and not have to layer to look good. I feel like these have a lot of depth without. Being over the top, and they can be worn alone or layered if you want and still give full coverage.
