Zoya Phoebe

Good day!

Yesterday was an exciting day. I found out that my boyfriend and I were approved for the apartment we’ve been dreaming of for months. This place is a palace of an apartment. 1600 square feet and only minutes away from a Target and the Ulta store (if it ever opens!). That’s the good news. The bad new is…now I have to pack. Ugh. I’m telling myself it’ll be worth it.

My polish for today is one of my picks from Zoya’s Earth Day Exchange. Phoebe is from the Mod Matte Collection from last year. She’s a fabulous bright blue with a hint of shimmer and, obviously, a matte finish. Now that I’m getting the hang of application with mattes, I’m liking them more and more. It’s such a fun way to change up an average mani without much work. The only downside is the wear time. If you’re planning on wearing a matte polish, expect chipping more quickly than your average cream. The dryness that causes that matte finish also leads to a more brittle polish and more chipping. That said, I change my polish every couple of days anyway…so it really doesn’t matter that much to me. You’ll also notice mattes are more susceptible to scratches and scuffs on the finish because you don’t put a protective coat over them. They wear better with a glossy coat…but that does defeat the purpose.

Application with Phoebe wasn’t bad for a matte, but I will say two things: If you use a base coat (some mattes are designed to use without), make sure it’s 110% dry before applying the color. Also, a light touch is key. You don’t want to drag the last coat, but too light and you end up with a bumpy mess. I got a pretty even finish with Phoebe, though the formula is thinner than I’ve seen with Lolly and Savita, the other two Zoya mattes I have. Not hard to apply, but you do have to watch pooling and running a little more. Dry time was super fast.

I love the frosty finish on the matte bottles Zoya uses. While I was figuring out the white balance with my camera and testing the flash, I accidentally got some cool shots, even if color accuracy is nonexistent.

You can really see the shimmer pop through in those. I think the last one is my favorite, even if my hand looks super awkward. Somehow, my cuticles look way better when the pictures are all jacked up.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with Phoebe. I have plans for her, too, which you shall soon see…assuming they look good when I’m done.
